Cooking cue
Cook beef to your preferred doneness and let steaks or larger cuts rest before serving.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Arrange 1/4-cup mounds of shredded cheddar cheese on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Gently press each mound down to create a single even layer of cheese.
- Bake for 5-7 minutes until the edges turn golden brown and the cheese has melted into flat rounds.
- Remove from oven and let the cheese cool for 1-2 minutes until firm enough to handle but still flexible and warm.
- Working quickly, carefully lift each cheese round and drape it over a wooden spoon handle or similar utensil balanced between two cups to form a taco shell shape. Allow to cool completely until crisp, then remove.
- While the cheese shells are baking and cooling, brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it apart as it cooks, until fully cooked through with no pink remaining.
- Drain excess grease from the skillet, then stir in the taco seasoning and water.
- Simmer the seasoned beef for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid has evaporated and the meat is well coated.
- Cook beef to your preferred doneness and let steaks or larger cuts rest before serving.
- Fill each cheese taco shell with the seasoned beef and add your desired toppings such as sour cream, avocado, lettuce, and additional cheese.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning at the end, then serve while everything is hot or freshly chilled.

The cheese shells need to be shaped while still warm and pliable. Work quickly after removing from the oven. You can drape them over a wooden spoon handle balanced between two cups or mugs to create the taco shape. Make shells in batches if needed to ensure proper shaping time.
